Society of the Spoken Word Gathering Jan. 25, 2014

Casa Cappuccino, located at 91 Dunlop St. E, Barrie, plays host to the winter gathering of the Society of the Spoken Word from 8 – 10:30 pm on Saturday January 25, 2014.
This event will feature a very special showcase from the exceedingly talented members of Meat Locker Editions and their newly published book! As always, the second half of the gathering is open mic and welcomes readers of both poetry and short prose.

Tonight there is a  Society of the Spoken Word event at Casa Cappuccino in downtown Barrie.  This event is part of the official Carnegie Days Festival 2013 from the MacLaren Art Centre.
The lineup includes:
The second half of the evening is open mic.  Feel free to share your poetry or prose, so come on down!  The theme is Fall, but you can read anything.

Final Society of the Spoken Word Event

sosWednesday April 24, 2013 marks the final event of The Society of the Spoken Word. Casa Cappuccino will be the venue for the event which takes places between 8 – 10 pm. Confirmed guest readers include Rocco De Giacomo:

Rocco de Giacomo is a widely published poet whose work has appeared in literary journals in Canada, Australia, England, Hong Kong and the US. His work has just been accepted for publication in Descant and The Malahat Review, and has most recently been published in The Fiddlehead and Queen’s Quarterly. Rocco’s poetry has also been featured on the CBC. He is the author of numerous chapbooks including, in 2008, Catching Dawn’s Breath. In 2009, his first full-length poetry collection, Ten Thousand Miles Between Us, was launched through Quattro Books. In 2010, Ten Thousand Miles was longlisted for the ReLit Poetry Award. In 2011, it was selected for Poetry NOW’s 3rd Annual Battle of the Bards. Rocco lives in Toronto where he writes and participates on the council for the Art Bar Poetry Series.

Society of the Spoken Word February Event

sosThis month’s Society of the Spoken Word takes place at the usual venue. On Tuesday Feb. 26 , 2013 from 9 – 11 pm the Second Cup in downtown Barrie will be host to the event. As always, the first hour will feature an exceptional guest reader. The second hour will be open-mic, where anyone who wants to share their poetry or prose is welcome to take center stage. Come out to Second Cup, located at  74 Dunlop Street East, Barrie and take in some local culture.

Our guest-readers for this month’s event will be the amazing Matt.Miller and Tomy Bewick! They will be performing their own style of tandem and solo spoken word pieces for you guys, so show up to support them!

Tuesday December 18th, 2012 marks the last Society of the Spoken Word event for this year. Come downtown to the Second Cup on Dunlop Street and hear some great poetry and prose. Don’t forget there is an open-mic portion where you can read your own work and be heard. Come out and see the great poets and writers living in Barrie.
